Ayurveda

India's wisdom

"Science of Life"

Ayurveda is the time honoured system of herbal medicine from South Asia. It contains guidelines and practices for maintaining health when well and treating illness and disease to aid the body's return to its natural state that is perfect health. When combined with diet and lifestyle suited to an individual's constitution Ayurveda has the tools to empower us to realize our potential in this life for enhanced happiness, longevity and wellbeing. We are an aggregate of the physical body, mind, the senses and the soul. The Ayurvedic Practitioner considers patients with all these in mind observing daily and seasonal influences on a person's health along with physical and mental/emotional stresses. By seeing ourselves as a microcosm of life influenced by the wider world around us we may understand our true nature. Knowledge of Ayurveda helps us adopt practices that bring balance, calm, enhanced immunity, lowered stress levels and joy into our lives. Its principles may be used as a guide book for what it is to live this wonderful life as a human being.

Ayurveda originated in India in the Vedic period and was an oral tradition passed from Guru to Shisya (student). Sanskrit, one of the most ancient languages of our planet became the language for its transmission when writing began and many of the classics of Ayurveda knowledge are still best read in this beautiful healing tongue. Still India's main system of health care, it's empirically tested principles are more appropriate than ever as we become further distanced from our true nature as healthy and strong, happy and peaceful beings. Ayurveda has a unique and exacting system for evaluating the qualities of foods and their subsequent effects on our digestion and overall health. It is an energetic system of medicine, considering the whole individual rather than looking at individual parts. The five elements of space, air, fire, water and earth in different combinations create the three doshas in our bodies. Each of us has a unique balance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha and it is here that Ayurveda's true strength lies. It is possible to create a program of holistic care tailored to the specific needs of the individual to provide the fertile grounds for us to return to our natural state - perfect health.

Whether it's support with discovering your unique constitution, simply utilizing the wonders of Ayurvedic therapies or working together on a more detailed program I am happy to support you. Daily routine, exercise, relaxation, nutrition, herbs and therapies are tailored to your individual needs. By giving ourselves the time each day to honour our need for calm and ease we can begin to know our depths and enhance our true nature. As my teacher says... " We should all feel as happy as a child skipping stones at the seaside. If this isn't how happy we are we're not quite living properly."
